How the calculation works
- Net payout is the gross sale (item price plus buyer-paid shipping) minus all eBay fees. Sales tax collected is pass-through and never counts as revenue.
- Profit subtracts your costs — item cost, your shipping cost, and packaging or other costs — from the net payout.
- Margin is profit divided by the item price. ROI (return on cost) is profit divided by your total costs.
- Break-even price is the lowest price at which profit reaches zero, found by searching the real fee function cent by cent. The target-margin price is the lowest price hitting your chosen margin.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between margin and ROI?
Margin measures profit as a share of the sale price; ROI measures profit as a share of what you spent (item cost, shipping cost and other costs). A sale can have a healthy margin but poor ROI if your costs are high.
Why is my break-even price not a round number?
Break-even is solved to the exact cent using the real fee schedule, including per-order fees and tier boundaries, so it usually lands on an odd cent value.
